EXPERIENCE AND COMMUNICATE THE SCIENCE AROUND YOU
Month: September
NTA 93rd Annual Conference
"NTA Broadening Participation in STEM Valuing HBCUs"
Theme :"Experience and Communicate the Science Around You
September 24-26th, 2021
Hybrid "Virtual/In-person" Conference
Lincoln University in collaboration with the National Technical Association [NTA] and BehindTheSTEAHM [BTS] will host a hybrid [onsite/virtual] HBCU Geosciences Workshop from September 24th - 26th, 2021 with the theme “Experience and Communicate the Science Around You”.
The objective of this conference is to bring together a diverse, inclusive and transdisciplinary group of participants to engage in an interactive dialogue about the current misconceptions and mistrust of science and policy with regards to the geosciences [i.e., environmental, earth, climate change, potamology, limnology, mineral resource mapping and oceanography]; its implications for underserved and underrepresented populations and their communities; and those populations’ paltry participation in the geosciences.
This conference will include participatory interactive workshops with panel discussions, networking, community engagement opportunities, and opportunities for constructive dialogue, pedagogical recommendations, and tangible solutions. Workshops will include themes on misconceptions in science and policy conduct, implementation, application and opportunities in collaboration and engagement. The hybrid conference will be synchronous in nature with in-person meetings as well virtually for networking, youth empowerment and science communication presentations.
ABOUT US
BehindTheSTEAHM is a non-profit organization with the mission to demystify misconceptions of various fields that are seen through public opinion, along with misconceptions of the public, seen through the lens of experts. Every field and subject has its foundations in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts Humanities and Mathematics (S.T.E.A.H.M.) and with great success these areas have improved our understanding of each other and the world. But with the increase access to information coming from the fields and subfields (Ex. medicine, geology, and politics), there has been a lack of addressing the factuality of information that comes from multiple mediums. Information is what drives understanding and knowledge and with heavily opiniated misleading thoughts, it has created a wedge in our society.
This is a platform to address this issue, by having the public and experts engage with one another through webinars, workshops, and conferences, the public and experts learn from one another, collaborate, and create solutions that change the way society views these fields and disciplines.
BehindTheSTEAHM invites educators, scientist, science communicators, students, business owners, artist, politicians, health professionals, and anyone who benefits from S.T.E.A.H.M. to come and engage with one another under one roof to improve ourselves, our understanding, and our society!
